Meet our St Joseph Veterinarian Team
Dr. Dennis Bechtold
Dr. Dennis grew up on a dairy farm in St. Joseph. He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He has been with the Cold Spring/St. Joseph/Paynesville Veterinary Clinics since 2007. Dr. Dennis' professional interests are small animal medicine, ultrasound, and dentistry. In addition, he enjoys avian and exotic medicine. He lives in the Richmond area on a hobby farm with his wife Rachel, who is a Certified Veterinary Technician, and his 2 sons. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and their two German Shepherds - Sarge and Tank. In addition they have many other pets including cats, a cockatiel, chickens, peafowl, emus, goats, a rabbit, a tortoise, and many others. He also enjoys gardening of all types.
Dr Traci Diggs
Dr. Traci grew up in Virginia and Nebraska. She worked as a surgical technician for 10 years while taking classes at University of Texas, Brownsville before applying to vet school. She graduated from Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002.
Dr. Traci has worked with the Cold Spring/St. Joseph/Paynesville Veterinary Clinic since June of 2002. She works with small animals with a special interest in soft tissue surgery. Dr. Traci volunteers at the Tri-County Humane Society weekly, performing spays and neuters.
Dr. Traci lives in the country with her two dogs(Nellie and Pearl) and a small herd of cats.
In her spare time she likes to travel, read, and cook.
Dr. Shayna Gotvaslee
Dr. Shayna has been with the Cold Spring/St.Joseph/Paynesville Veterinary Clinic since she graduated in 2005. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys her work and feels honored to be able to help animals and the families who love them. Dr. Shayna lives in the woods with her husband Glenn and three children. Family pets include: Pierre - a cuddly miniature poodle, Winks- an outgoing and friendly little poodle mix, and two Amazon parrots - Gypsy and Ozzy. Dr Shayna enjoys being a mom and ironically solitude (when possible), reading, traveling, dancing, trying new foods, road trips, walking at county/state parks, hanging out with family and friends, and cuddling her dogs.
Dr. Kathy Jorgensen
Dr. Jorgensen graduated from North Dakota State University in 1991 with her BS in microbiology and from the University of MN Veterinary School in 1995. In 2011, she completed her Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of MN. Dr. Jorgensen achieved diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine in 2011. She has an interest in canine and feline preventive medicine and food safety issues. She is also a member of both state and federal disaster response teams and is active in agricultural disaster preparedness and response. She and her husband Tim live on a dairy farm in rural St. Cloud along with their Border collie, Sally Sue, 5 cats, and several chickens.
Dr. Christina Mattson
Dr. Mattson grew up in Apple Valley, MN. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at Claremont Mckenna College in California and received her DVM from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, IA. Dr. Mattson's professional interests include feline medicine, small animal dentistry and dermatology; as well as companion exotic medicine including birds, reptiles and pocket pets.
Dr. Erica Mortensen
Dr. Erica grew up in Brainerd, MN. She obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Her professional interests include small animal ophthalmology, neurology, and dentistry. She currently lives in St. Cloud with her chihuahua, Taz. Outside of veterinary medicine she enjoys playing tennis, fishing, and reading.
Dr. Katie Gilbertson
Dr. Katie grew up on a dairy farm in Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated with her veterinary degree from Iowa State University in 2017. Her large animal interests include bovine medicine, surgery and herd health management. She also enjoys small animal surgery, ophthalmology, cardiology and preventative medicine. Katie lives in St. Cloud with her Jack Russell Terrier mix, Tucker. In her spare time she enjoys running with her dog, exploring local and state parks, golfing and trying new food/drink places.
